Sepia Saturday 119 - Work

I don't seem to have any postcards or magazines featuring people actually working for this week's Sepia Saturday theme of work, so I've had to opt for people going to or from work. In this case it's people crossing London Bridge on their way to and from work in the early 1900's.

As usual 100's more vintage postcards can be found on my web site

  1. That perfectly fits the theme as far as I'm concerned. Oh, for the days when we could walk to work. I spend too much time driving to work.

  2. I still can't believe that London bridge got moved from England to the u.s.
It's good that you have these reminders of where this bridge should have stayed put!

  3. It's a delightful way to travel to work anyway!

  4. Works for me! When I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge, I marveled at the wisdom of the engineers and builders who had the foresight to include a pedestrian bridge in addition to the vehicle bridge. The London Bridge seems to have had the same allure.

  5. The city bridges here have sidewalks, and a few people do walk to work--not very many though.

  6. That will do nicely and I have walked over that bridge on my way to work a good few times myself.

  8. Looks as if the traffic was building up even then.

  9. Have crossed the London Bridge in Arizona. No logic can be had from the experience. It had only been in place for awhile so there's wasn't much to see except the bridge, a few gifts shops, and an old red phone booth.

  10. Look at all those people walking to work. More walkers than riders!

  11. Oh, my goodness, what great postcards. A few years ago we went to Lake Havasu and saw the London Bridge in Arizona. Wonder why they put it there ... probably because whoever bought it didn't want to see it destroyed.

  12. The commute wasn't too bad then, some folk I know spend 2.5 hrs+ getting into London for work - I couldn't do it. No, if I can't get into Edinburgh in half an hour, I need to move house :-)

  13. I wouldn't like crossing the bridge next to my place, because I have vertigo, and the river beneath has swift current. It can look pretty impressive. And the walkways for the pedestrians are so narrow...

    This said, lovely cards!!
    :)~
