Sepia Saturday 115 - Games

  2. Basketball was invented in Massachusetts too. It seems to have caught on much more than Push Ball ever did.

  4. Never heard of pushball, but I looked it up. It is a huge ball and it seems to be a rough game, but so is rugby and it was never retired.

  10. I had to check the date to make sure it wasn't April 1st! A very strange game - I wonder why none of has ever heard of it before.

  11. I never heard of push ball! Since it was so big and looks diffucult I'm assuming it was something to help keep them in shape?

  12. That is a definitely a game I would play! How did they do it in the navy on board a ship? According to the Wikipedia entry there were different rules for Britain and America! And even a version for Pushball with horses!

    This type of Pushball is still played by the US Cadets for condition training and as team building! And at the US University the Freshmen play each year against the Sophomore.
    At home, in the Netherlands, Europe, I'm promoting it as a equestrian teamsport. It already exist since 1902!
