Looks as though it's going to be a warm day today, which will make a pleasant change, so I will be off out on my bike shortly, but still time to share some vintage postcards for this week's Sepia Saturday. I actually had quite a few cave postcards to choose from, so have taken one from each location.
Vintage postcard of Reynard's Cave, Dovedale, Derbyshire, published by Raphael Tuck
Vintage postcard of Tilly Whim Caves, Swanage, Dorset
Vintage postcard of the Fairy Grotto, Cheddar Caves, Somerset
Vintage postcard of St. Clements Caves, Hastings, Sussex
As usual 100's more vintage postcards on my web site
Aha, we're in the same location this week - Dovedale - and the Swanage postcard must be very close to where I based my SS165 post. Hope you enjoyed your bike ride.
ReplyDeleteDovedale and Swanage, both dear to my heart.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have been to any of the caves you mention. Proves that there is still a lot of this country I still need to see.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great collection of postcards. I could almost get into this postcard collecting business ....
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the first card, I thought for a moment I was looking at Natural Bridge in Virginia. But no. These are all interesting making me wish I could see them in person.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, and the Fairy Grotto has my vote for must see place!
ReplyDeleteI wonder where the name "Tilly Whim" came from and what it means.
ReplyDeleteMy photo of Buchan caves show a fairy grotto also. They do look similar.
ReplyDeleteFine post. Oh my, several new locations to add to my "must visit" list.
ReplyDeleteBreathtaking. Even more so, because it makes me say, "I wanna go there too" --- also by time travel, me thinks.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the fairy grotto. It's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI 'did' Cheddar as well this week with a postcard and some pictures of different caves.
