Sepia Saturday 181 - girls adorned with crowns

I don't actually have very many pictures of people, let alone pictures of people adorned with jewellery for this week's Sepia Saturday, so this is the closest I can get. Unfortunately I don't know anything about this picture as there's no publisher or location information on the back of the postcard. Maybe one of the Sepia Saturday super-sleuths can help out here ... maybe the crowns and what appear to be drums in the front row help identify this?

As usual 100's more vintage postcards can be found on my web site.

  1. I would guess that they are not in any particular national costume as each attire is quite different in detail. So I do not think they are more than a school/theatrical group, dressing in a quasi national costume way,.....just what their Mums could knock up.... say Polish, Tatra mountains style ?? Better to guess than ignore !!

  2. I'm thinking Mister Mike will be able to help you on this one. Do you have a scan of the back of the postcard? I wonder whether it is a familar format?

  3. Nigel's guess is amusing. In my part of the world, when kids wear crowns like this, it means closing day of Vacation Bible School and they're going to eat binignit (traditional dessert) after receiving their certificates.

  5. This is very fitting for our theme, and it's always quite interesting to view other traditions in time!

  6. Only two in the middle seem to be wearing crowns. The others seem to have little caps. could those be some sort of tamborine in the front? They look pretty serious about whatever it is they are dressed up for.

  8. Hmmmmm, only one wears a crown and a sash. Dance troupe? Choir? Interesting shot with lots of questions.
