Sepia Saturday 129 - Tea

For this week's Sepia Saturday I have picked out the theme of tea from the original shared image. Whilst I don't have any images of people pouring tea, or sitting and drinking tea, I do have a few 'tea-related' ones. Three are vintage postcards, although the first of these doubles-up as an advertisement, and one is a straight vintage advertisement. I do quite a bit of travelling with my job, and despite having been lucky enough to visit several countries and continents, there's nothing better than sitting at home with a nice cup of tea ... apart from possibly a cream tea, with scones, strawberry jam and cream.

Vintage postcard of the Trossachs Tearoom, Scotland

As usual 100's of vintage postcards on my web site

  1. Amazing place in Scotland too. I'm guessing most of these places are still alive and well, right? I dare not mention the (scones) I miss them so....they just simple tasted so much better over there!

  2. Old ads are always interesting, but what a strange marketing expression - ‘Always good alike’ - or am I misinterpreting it?

  3. Oh how I could go for cup of cream tea and scones. You just can't get those here in the states.

  4. Tea rooms and tea houses seem never to be able to make it very long where I live. Such a pity.

  5. These are great! I loved the advertisement that claimed product consistency. I had to laugh about fine ladies being embarrassed about the tea they were forced to serve, lol.

  6. I especially enjoyed the Blue Ribbon Tea ad. Who knew bad tea was a source of such humiliation?

  7. What a great tea-flavoured collection of cards. I did have a quick look through my postcards but I was unable to come up with a single tea-related image.

  8. Does the fact that I remember Hornimans make me a vintage character? Or do I only think I remember. The most famous tea rooms near us is 'Betty's' at York.

  9. I can only hope my guests are not talking about me behind my back because of my inferior tea.

  10. I can read those old wordy ads for hours on end! Fascinating how products were once sold. I like that line, "Real cheapness" on the postcard.

  11. Anytime I visit a friend and they serve tea I always as for some to take home, that way I always have the kind they like. Your home your tea, their choice to take or not. I would never apologize. Love the posties.
