I've shared pretty much all of my festive, vintage postcards over the years, so was pleased to pick up a couple of new ones last weekend, and just in time for this week's Sepia Saturday.
Christmas Greetings, Shakespeare Memorial, by the artist Elmer Keene, c.1905
A Merry Xmas, c.1907
As usual, 100's of vintage postcards on my web site, and about 200 new ones to be added over the Christmas break. A very Happy Christmas and New Year to everyone who reads and comments on my blog posts ... and if you've not looked at my vintage postcard advent calendar yet, why not take a peek and see what's behind today's window.
I had a look at your stock, quite a collection! Hope you do well.
ReplyDeleteThanks :-)
DeleteI'll confess I had to look up Elmer Keene; I'd love to see the actual painting.
ReplyDelete@Bob - I have quite a few Elmer Keene postcards. Maybe in the New Year I'll do an Elmer Keene blog post.
DeleteGreat cards, DB! And I think an Elmer Keene blogpost would be wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Will do my best for an Elmer Keene posting early in the New Year.
DeleteThe 2nd card seems more obviously Christmas-y, so it's my preference. I'm off to check your Advent Calendar. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think the first card is simply a bulk standard postcard which has been stamped over with an embossed Christmas greeting message.

You should be able to see those now ... sorry but rule number 1 of advent calendar etiquette is "no peeking ahead" :-)
DeleteAlright, it was worth waiting for it.
DeleteLove the cat on the 25th!!

Interesting that they are Sepia. The first is a very attractive illustration and I like the sentiment on the second.
ReplyDeleteLove those postcards, having them in possession is priceless! I'm a postcard keeper myself, but only those ones I inherited from my folks. You may find one in my latest Sepia Saturday post too. :) Enjoy the holidays!
ReplyDeleteThanks - enjoy what's left of the festive break.
DeleteMore Lovely Postcards Dakota.Best Wishes For 2013.Regards,Tony
ReplyDeleteThanks Tony - have a great 2013.
DeleteI quite like the verse on the second one. I'm always fascinated with these sort of "poems" written specifically for cards. As Hallmark cranks them out today, you wonder about those that wrote them so long ago.
