Theme Thursday: Country

As a vintage postcard collector, this week's Theme Thursday of 'country' was, on first glance, one of the easiest for me to participate in. However, the dilemma now comes as to which postcard(s) to choose ... I eventually decided on this one.

  1. I really enjoy the country postcards which so often seem more like paintings. This one is lovely. I also liked the summer postcard you shared a few days ago with the beautiful sunset.

  2. Beautiful card - but, one wonders, was the countryside ever really like this.

  3. @Alan - maybe it did exist, or maybe the writers and artists of the age thought that's what it should look like in their utopian visions. It brings to mind some of the descriptions in "News From Nowhere" by William Morris, or perhaps "Looking Backward" by Edward Bellamy.

  5. Ah yes... the magical places, magical spaces called country (as opposed to my citylife).

  6. How bucolic! Lovely soft colours. You’re right about Utopian visions. Throughout history the life of the countryman has been one of toil. We see a rosy view in these lovely scenes.
