Sepia Saturday 190 - vintage postcards of Edwardian actresses in hats

A bit rushed, and a bit late this week, plus I couldn't quite match with the picnic theme for this week's Sepia Saturday but couldn't help notice the magnificent straw hats the ladies in the picture were wearing, so on a hat theme, here are a handful of Edwardian actresses with some pretty fine hats.

  2. Fantastic hats. My favorite is the buxom Gabrielle Ray. Her bosom and hat are in proportion. I have to wear a tiny flat little beret to achieve the same balance.

  3. Magnificent hats and hair, presumably held up with a large set of hatpins.

  4. Part of the appeal for these cards must have been the hat styles. How easy was it to learn the name of the milliners who made the hats?

    1. There are no details on the postcards other than the actress names, so I guess the focus of these particular cards for collectors was the actress.

  5. Wonderful hats. How on earth could such women get close enough to each other to have a conversation without their hats clashing?

  6. I am surprised that more bloggers have not gone for hats with this prompt and you have filled the gap with some wonderful vintage postcards.

  7. So many pictures of hats--I guess that's one of the reasons they are called "picture hats."

  8. What a wonderful array of fashionable ladies --- and hats galore. Nevertheless, my favorite is the young woman in the fur hat and muff. Lovely.

  13. Wow--these are wonderful. Can you imagine having to wear such things all the time. Imagine wearing dresses buttoned to the chin with long sleeves, sweeping the floor--in the hot summertime?! EEEeeeek! lol
