Sepia Saturday 108 - where did you get that hat

Another crazily busy week at work, during which I have been working up in London for 4 of the 5 days and seem to have found time for very little else. I am very behind on my blog updates, and in fact last week managed to miss Sepia Saturday altogether. I think I may have shared one of these 2 vintage postcards before, but I felt that they fitted in well with my "hat" take on this week's Sepia Saturday. I have no information about the first postcard, but the second is published by C.W.Faulkner.

As usual 100's more vintage postcards on my web site

  1. That's rather a large hat to wear on a train journey ...

  2. Plain or fancy - take your choice? :)

  3. I love the second one especially. She's so smart-looking. I must investigate the habit of wearing a big clump of flowers -- I have a photo of one of my ancestors with a clump of flowers popping out of her dress.

  4. You may have shown it before but we’re following a different ‘train’ of thought! It’s such a lovely hat, who cares?

  5. I wonder whether the second one is a picture of someone famous. It doesn't look like a typical greeting postcard like the first one.

  6. They are both beautiful in very different ways. There is something eternally fashionable about the second one.

  7. That first one seems familiar, but I love seeing it again.

  8. The first may be colourful with a fine hat but it strikes me as unnatural. The second one is more to my taste a real woman feeling superior in her hat.

  9. @Postcardy - I think the 2nd one is someone famous. I have a vague recollection that when I posted it before under a different theme, that someone told me who it was, but alas I can't find the information now.

  10. Work less. We missed you last week. You always provide a great Sepia Saturday contribution.

  11. Even if you have shown them before, I did not recall them so it was good to see, pretty hats and cards..

  12. With "Welcome!" written in the white space, wouldn't that first photo be perfect as a welcome gadget on the sidebar of a family history/genealogy blog? I love it!

  13. A nice contrast between hats and fashion styles. Is the second a kind of fashion card? Doesn't seem like a greeting card type like the first.
