Oh I do like to be beside the seaside

Today's vintage postcard blog update contains some of my favourite vintage postcards from the UK's seaside resorts. This decision was partly inspired by all the lovely comments I received on previous, similar blog updates, and also as an attempt to change the British weather where after a gorgeous April, May has brought us some fairly cold and uninspiring weather.

Southwold Beach, Suffolk, published by Raphael Tuck

Worthing Sea Front and Pier Looking West, Sussex, published by Wardell

Pier and Grand Hotel, Llandudno, Wales, published by Valentine

The Sands, Pier and Promenade, Blackpool, Lancashire, published by B.B.

Esplanade and Beach, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, published by Valentine

As usual these and hundreds of other vintage postcards can be found on my vintage postcards web site

  2. Great minds think alike! I went for seaside too - and guess what? It's worked, it's warmer! :)

  3. I need to find some seashore postcards to bring some warm weather here! These are lovely, esp. like those old resorts from turn of the last century. Some grand houses on the old boardwalks of long ago.

  4. I love those bathing carts in the first postcard. They were pulled into the water by a servant so the bathers could enjoy their privacy. They also would not share offensive shows of ankles and toes to others. Hand me my smelling salts!

  5. I can't get enough of these wonderful, typical British cards (Where's the sun?). Keep posting them, please.

  6. They say its going to be warm this weekend so time to head for the beach.
Apart from the bathing carts Southwold hasn't changed much.

  11. Well it seems to have worked ... the weather is lovely here today. I've just managed to plant out most of the vegetables that I had growing in pots on to the vegetable patch. Unfortunately some have already been trampled by our two cats chasing a tiny mouse through the garden.

  12. Beautiful set, it looks so crowded in the last card.

  13. Since the beach is my favorite place in the world (ANY beach, ANYWHERE in the world!), I love this post! I especially love those beach wagons in the first postcard. How unique!
