I have to confess to being more of a cat person than a dog person, but the right dog (in small amounts) is fine. Thought I'd share these 3 vintage postcards for this week's Sepia Saturday. I vaguely remember my grandmother used to have a gog, called Minty I believe, who looked just like the guy in the first postcard.
Greetings from Inverness, Scotland
Thinking of You, Llandudno, Wales
Best of Luck from Dumfries, Scotland
As usual 100's more vintage postcards on my web site
Delightful postcards!
ReplyDeleteI recently came across some old postcards in my grandmother's chest. I especially like the one of Times Square. Photo in this blog entry:

I wonder if the dogs sent those cards to their masters? LOL
ReplyDeleteIf they did what Jinksy suggested would the message have been, "Wish you were here." I can see whey the Scottish Terrier is on the cards from Scotland but does anyone know why the dog is on the Llandudno card?
ReplyDeleteI'm with Jinksy, although Bob got a point :-)
ReplyDeleteOhhh, you got me with the Scotties!!
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that the dogs are centre stage!
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten all about how postcards would often have a picture of a dog surrounded by local views. I remember them (now) from my youth. Thanks for taking me on a time-travelling journey.
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting type of postcard that I haven't seen before. We didn't have postcards like that in the U.S.
ReplyDeleteLovely cards!!!
ReplyDeleteWas there some method to their madness as to which dog appeared with which scenes?
ReplyDeleteI have never seen cards like this with dogs in the center. I love them.
ReplyDelete@Wendy - not sure. I guess the Scottish ones nearly always had the Scotties, but not sure about the Welsh card. I also have similar postcards with cats in the centre so will have to look those out to see if any of those are similarly "themed"
ReplyDeleteOh, these are perfect! I have just gotten a bunch of vintage postcards from my Mom, and it is interesting how many had such one-liners as the message. I guess that they were an "I'm thinking of you" gesture.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week,
Kathy M.
Could these be champion dogs or just the pets of the photographer? And would the cards have been as popular with cats?
ReplyDeleteI remember that Scottish cards often featured Scotties or Westies - I did a quick Google search and perhaps the spaniel is a Welsh Springer Spaniel? Jo (ImagesPast)
