Sepia Saturday 120 - Library

Although I felt like I should rise to Alan's challenge of midget submarines for this week's Sepia Saturday I opted for the easier option of library. I think I may have posted at least one of these before, but as they fit the theme I thought no harm in showing them again.

Cambridge University Library

Cambridge, St. John's College Library

Oxford, Oriel College Library

As usual 100's more vintage postcards on my web site

  2. Some of did rise to the challenge on the Sepia Saturday Facebook page - there's still time to join in! I do rather like these old sepia libraries, they remind me of a time when you had to be silent in the library, for fear of disturbing the dust of ages with a cough.

  5. I'd love to visit any of these libraries. Aren't they inviting?
One of the most beautiful libraries I've been in is the one in Trinity College, Dublin. Just breathtakingly gorgeous. But you're afraid to touch any of those ancient books.

  6. Those carved wooden shelves look so much better than grey metal.

  7. OK, if you are stuck in a midget submarine with nothing to do all day, you will probably want to pass the time by reading. Therefore most midget submarines will have had on-board libraries. And you mean to tell me that you have no postcards depicting such places in your collection! Well, shame on you.

  8. These look a bit dark and sterile- but of course the life of a library is between the pages of the books, after all!

  9. Huge college and university libraries are still amazing looking. I had no photos or postcards of any libraries. I was looking online at the Vatican Library and those huge ornate ones just blow me away. Great group here.

  13. These are neat! I think that those librarians would definitely not put up with any noise.
